Jarosław is a culturally vibrant town. Numerous institutions, organizations, associations have their interesting offers in which each town resident can find something interesting for themselves.
The institution that initiates and organises cultural events in the town is the Municipal Cultural Centre, housed in the former ‘Sokół’ building. The Municipal Cultural Centre includes: ‘Mała Galeria’ (‘A small gallery’), ‘Galeria w Korytarzu’ (‘A gallery in the corridor’), ‘Galeria Projektor Sztuki’ (‘Art Projector Gallery’) and teams, clubs, thematic clubs which gather people with different interests. There are some interesting courses and workshops organised, actors of ‘Plaster’ theater group act on the stage.
The Attavantis’ old tenement building is the seat of another cultural facility – Centre for the Culture and Promotion in Jarosław. The Centre houses the following galleries: Główna (Main), Debiutów (of Debutes), w Holu (in the Hall). The last floor is occupied by representative Mirror Room which, as formerly, is used as a place of cultural events and concerts.
‘Marysieńka’s old tenement building’ in turn, houses the head office of the distinguished in the town Association of Jarosław Enthusiasts which lively operates in the field of culture, art and tradition, and also for the protection and promotion of Jarosław monuments. All sorts of readings, meetings with people of culture, art or science, concerts and exhibitions are held in the head office of the Association.
In Gruszewiczes’ tenement there are, i.a.: ‘Rynek 6’ gallery and the bookstore of the Municipal Cultural Centre ‘Jarosławski Kuferek Artystyczny’ (‘Jarosław Artistic Coffer’), a place for interesting cultural initiatives. In addition, the seats of the Jarosław Association of Tourist Guides and Managers and the Municipal Club of the Polish Tourist and Sightseeing Society in Jarosław (dynamic tourist organisations which contribute to the promotion of the town and the region) are located there.
There is also the head office of ‘Early Music’ Association of which the main goal is to organise concerts, music courses and workshops, but also running numerous research works on traditional music. The main event organised by the association is the International Festival of Early Music ‘The Song of Our Roots’ which takes place in the last week of August. The Festival concerts are held in the historic Jarosław churches, and Jarosław for a week during the festival is a Mecca for music lovers from all over the world.
At the time of the festival in Jarosław, one more very important cultural event takes place, namely the Jarosław Fair. During this four-day celebration the Market Square comes alive as in the old days when Jarosław fairs attracted merchants from all over the world. The Jarosław Fair in conjunction with the festival have become a showcase of the town on the cultural map of Poland.
Another cultural event that is permanently included in the Jarosław calendar is the International Festival of Borderland Culture organised in September. For a week the inhabitants of Jarosław and the region participate in the events of art showing different cultural and religious circles. Meet-the-author sessions, concerts, multimedia presentations, photo exhibitions and films bring the beauty of borderland to the participants.
