In the 16th and 17th century Jarosław experienced its heyday. This was due to the development of trade, and especially of the famous Jarosław fairs. They were considered one of the largest in Europe (according to the people of that time it was after Frankfurt am Main, the second most important commercial centre in south-eastern Europe).
An event which refers to the merchant tradition of the town is held annually in August, Jarosław Fair. During this four-day celebration the Market Square comes alive as in the old days when Jarosław fairs attracted crowds of merchants from all over the world.
During this colourful event in the Jarosław Market Square you can, among other things: build a punt, participate in different musical and theatrical initiatives, participate in the Book Fair, buy some old stuff at the Flea Market.
In the trade area the participants of the Fair can purchase commodities from various parts of the world: Hungary, Nepal, Tibet, India, Thailand, Greece, Morocco, Turkey and other, such as: handicrafts, ceramics, jewellery, textiles, sculpture, painting, coffee and tea, spices, candies, cheese, wine, etc.
In aromatic and tasty Cuisine Area you can taste Hungarian, Tatar, Polish, Italian, Turkish, Ethiopian and other delicacies.
Participants of the fair during those unique days can take part in interesting workshops, fire shows, dancing or concerts.
The Jarosław Fair takes place in the same date in which ‘The Song of Our Roots’ Early Music Festival is organised. Both events are the showcase of Jarosław on the cultural map of Poland.
