The association called ‘Early Music in Jarosław’ was founded in 1995. Their main objective is organisation of concerts, musical courses and workshops, and also conducting numerous research works on traditional music.
The main event organised by the association is the International Festival of Early Music ‘The Song of Our Roots’ which takes place in the last week of August. Previously, the festival was held in Stary Sącz.
Festival concerts are held in historic Jarosław churches: the Church of St Nicholaus, the Reformers-Franciscans Church, the Greek Catholic Church of the Transfiguration of Our Lord, the Collegiate Church of Corpus Christi, Our Lady of Sorrows Basilica.
Jarosław throughout a week of duration of the festival becomes a vitally important place for music lovers from all over the world.
Artists gather in Jarosław from many countries, i.a., Ukraine, Russia, Spain, Lebanon, Morocco, Italy, Germany, Finland, Romania, Greece, Great Britain and the Czech Republic. During the concerts, we can listen to different kinds of music, e.g.: medieval, Baroque, Byzantine vocal, Gregorian chant.
In the year 2017 already 25th edition of the festival was held. At the time of the festival in Jarosław, one more very important cultural event takes place, namely the Jarosław Fair. During this four-day celebration the Market Square comes alive as in the old days when Jarosław fairs attracted merchants from all over the world. The Jarosław Fair in conjunction with the festival have become a showcase of Jarosław on the cultural map of Poland.
